"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly
places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him."
-Ephesians 1:3-4
In this passage, Paul is opening up his letter
written to the Ephesian church. The opening topics of Paul's epistles
are the important ideas that give a foundation to what he will say to
his audience. Therefore, whatever Paul is talking about at the beginning
of his letter deserves serious contemplation. We will be meditating on
this particular opening throughout this week.
In this opening we see Paul exalting "the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual
blessing in the heavenly places." What a rich statement! This statement
is absolutely overflowing wonderful truths about the Trinity, God's
glory, and the favor God has shown us. However, avoid my ranting out of
sheer excitement, let's hone in on the fact that God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
Every blessing that is available to us as believers is found in
Christ. God the Father has given grace, mercy, and peace through the
knowledge of Him and His Son Jesus Christ. This is such a beautiful
reality, for we have all these blessings freely given to us from Our
Savior, God Himself. His provision is sufficient and steadfast, unlike
the provision of this world. For proof of this we need to look no
further than our own salvation, for the grace of God was shown in
infinite abundance at that moment and has not wavered one bit since then
Let us be encouraged then that since God has done the most impossible
thing, namely reconciling filthy sinners to Himself, we can rest assured
that there is no provision or blessing to wonderful for Him. Rest in
His provision of blessings today.
